COOKING TIPS: Line the steaming plate with banana leaf imparts a nice fragrance to the nian gao. Oil the banana leaf to prevent nian gao from sticking to the leaf.

Ingredients

  • 300g Nian Gao

NESTUM Coating

  • 30g NESTUM
  • 20g Fresh grated coconuts
  • 1/3 teaspoon Salt

Directions

  1. Heat a pan or wok and toast ingredient (B) – fresh grated coconut until light brown, add in Nestum and salt and continue toasting until golden brown and fragrant. Set aside to cool.
  2. Next, cut the ingredient (A) - nian gao into 15 slices and place nian gao slices on the plate lined with oiled banana leaf.
  3. Prepare steamer by bringing a wok of water and allow water to come to a boil.
  4. Place the plate of sliced nian gao into the steamer. Cover with lid and let it steam with medium heat for 15 minutes.
  5. Removed steamed nian gao from steamer. Using 2 teaspoons, scape a piece of steamed nian gao and roll it in the toasted NESTUM and coconut mixture to form into cube shape.
  6. Toss well to evenly coat the nian gao and place on the serving plate. Repeat the same for the rest of the steamed nian gao.
  7. For better aromatic and presentation, you may use the remaining banana leaf to lined your serving plate. It is best eaten while it is warm.
